Wow! So many of you are outside more than ever before!
While we live in these unprecedented times, it’s become clear that spending time outside makes us feel better – physically and mentally.
During these difficult times, most of us are able to spend more time outdoors. This is a blessing. When you take your next walk, hike, or bike ride, pause a moment to pay attention to what your body feels like and what your mind feels like. This feeling is what all of us need.
Unfortunately, the children we serve are not able to reap those benefits right now. They are often stuck inside without access to the public spaces we take for granted.
That’s why Footpath’s services will be more vital than ever.
The children we serve are aching for this feeling the outdoors brings. We see depression rising among children due to the pandemic. This is concerning for all children, and even more alarming for children living in poverty since they already face daily hardships.
We know spending time outside helps our overall well-being. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, we are not currently able to take children to outdoor spaces in our usual way.
Since we can’t safely take kids to overnight camp this summer, our programming will look different for a little while – but be just as impactful.
We are working with our partners and creating special curriculum and trips that we will be able to do while keeping the kids safe.
Trust us, the moment we can reach our kids – we will be ready!
Thank you for being with us during this challenging time. We will continue to keep you updated. In the meantime, please keep taking care of yourselves and your families.
Go outside, recharge your body and mind, and take a deep breath of fresh air!
