Sherry Sanfilippo is an amazing volunteer who has done so much for the mission of Footpath Foundation. Sherry has donated her time, talents and professional insight to help with reports, surveys and analytics for Footpath. These projects help to ensure Footpath’s efforts make the most impact on our community. In addition to this, Sherry was a volunteer at our bag drive as well as Footpath Overnight Camp at Camp Whitewood for the 2nd session of 2019 with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland. She was wonderful with the kids and truly made their experience at camp richer. Thank you Sherry, for being an incredible member of the Footpath Team. We are so grateful for your continuous support! Why do you support Footpath Foundation?
I support Footpath because I believe that all children should have access to nature and natural spaces. I am a big supporter of nature conservation and the protection of wildlife. Footpath gives children without the access or opportunity, nature experiences that shape their attitudes towards the natural world. It is my hope that once these children experience nature in all its wonder they will be good stewards to the natural world as they travel on their Footpath.
What’s your favorite part about volunteering for Footpath?
I love seeing the impact that nature and Footpath programming has on the children that participate. It is so exciting when I am compiling Footpath survey data and I read all the incredible testimonials that attest to how effective Footpath is at impacting these kids in a positive way. I was able to visit and volunteer at Camp Whitewood this summer with Mary Macias and it was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. The campers are incredible kids and it was amazing to watch their excitement as they participated in outdoor camp activities for the first time. Footpath kids are free to be kids and truly be themselves.
What’s your favorite outdoor activity to do as a family?
We have so many outdoor activities we enjoy as a family! We greatly enjoy fishing, hiking in the Metroparks, apple picking, and rock collecting at Huntington Beach. We are outside playing games, bike riding, and enjoying nature from April until November!
What do you love about being outside?
I love the calm of being outside, the feeling of truly being free, and all nature has to offer. I feel so blessed that we live in a climate that gives us four beautiful seasons and something different to experience and enjoy during each one. Fall is my absolute favorite season and I look forward to the cool Fall days, warm campfires, colorful leaves, and apple picking with my family.
Favorite outdoor childhood memory?
My family spent a great deal of time outdoors when I was growing up. We camped often when I was a small child, and boated on Lake Erie when I was a teenager. It is so hard to pick one favorite memory as we had so many amazing outdoor experiences. My dad used to take my siblings and myself on creek hikes, we fished regularly as a family, and we shared many picnics with family and friends at Hinckley Lake. Wherever we would travel to, we would always check out the local caves. One of my most vivid outdoor childhood memories is of visiting the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. It was an incredible but eerie experience!
Anything you’d like to say about Footpath and the work you have done for us?
Thank you to Mary Macias for giving me the opportunity to volunteer with Footpath. Being a Footpath volunteer is an incredibly rewarding and humbling experience. I have no words to accurately convey the importance of the work they are doing to help connect kids and nature.
