Our Footpath Friend of the Month for July is an incredibly valuable volunteer who has been with us since our very first camp session! Shawn George came to Footpath’s first camp session as a Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland staff member. The campers connected with him instantly. Shawn truly understands and values the camp experience and knows the positive impact nature has on the kids he works with. Shawn continues as a Footpath volunteer and is currently at a Footpath summer camp program right now! We are so grateful for his passion, commitment and perspective. Here’s a bit more about Shawn and how he chooses to give back to his community:
Shawn, why do you support Footpath?
“I support Footpath because I too believe that introducing children to meaningful outdoor experiences can increase resiliency, confidence, and relieve stress. I’ve been involved with Footpath for two years as a counselor and Footpath Friend and in that time I’ve watched dozens of kids step out of their comfort zone, put down their cell phones and embrace nature.”
What’s your favorite outdoor activity?
“Hiking, camping, and kayaking.”
What do you love about being outside?
“I love the feeling of the sun beaming down; its warmth and energy is intoxicating.”
What’s your favorite childhood memory?
“I would go outside every day, rain or shine, and make mudpies, ride bikes with friends, play tag, and more. Ahh, those were simpler times.”
What’s an outdoor activity you’d like to try?
“I would like to try skiing this winter. It looks like a blast!”
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
“It’s neck and neck between Long Beach, CA and the Smokey Mountains.”
“Summer because I love the warm weather, festivals, cookouts, and laying in my hammock in the sun.”
THANK YOU SHAWN FOR ALL YOU DO FOR CLEVELAND KIDS! #footpathfriend
