This February, we would like to recognize Janet Spreen as our Footpath Friend of the Month!
Janet’s support has been quintessential in some of Footpath’s major fundraising efforts, including our most recent “Thankful I Can Give” campaign. Through her continuous support and generosity, she helped send an additional group of at-risk kids to summer camp in 2018!
Janet is a Partner at Baker Hostetler in Cleveland, Ohio. She and her husband, Kris, enjoy traveling with their three children. It is people like Janet who truly help us continue our mission and reach more children who need us. Learn a bit more about Janet and her motivators:
Why do you support Footpath?
“Footpath combines so many causes that are important to me – providing kids who need extra support with the tools they need to succeed, giving kids alternatives to screens so they keep their curiosity & creativity and simply allowing them to enjoy being outdoors.”
What’s you favorite outdoor activity?
“Running, especially when I am traveling. It is a great way to have some time alone, some focused thoughts and to see new things.”
What do you love about being outside?
“It helps me to escape the chores, email, etc., and focus on relaxing and having fun. The repressed artist in me also loves to observe how the light and seasons affect the landscape.”
What’s your favorite outdoor childhood memory?
“All the kids in my neighborhood would gather in the empty lot between two houses to just play kickball and sometimes work together to make up elaborate games like making our own carnival that we would play for days. The lot was like a magnet for fun for kids of all ages.”
What’s an outdoor activity you would love to try?
“Stand up paddle boarding.”
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
“Kiawah Island – for a beach vacation in an area that is not overdeveloped, so you can enjoy wildlife, and peace & quiet. And of course, there are miles and miles of running and biking paths.”
Favorite season and why?
“Definitely summer. I love hot temperatures, the deep shades of green and the flowers in full bloom. I also love being able to play out in the yard until it is so dark we can’t even see what we are doing.”
Anything you’d like to say about Footpath and/or the work you have done for us?
“The “Thankful I Can Give” fundraising campaign really resonated with me. The theme reminded me of how lucky we are when we have resources to spare, whether time, talent or financial, and that it is a great measure of success in life to have helped others.”
THANK YOU JANET, for all you have done for Footpath Kids!
